Traditions are a part of the Holiday season. While I put the finishing touches on the menu, my family watches the parade on television.  On Thanksgiving, our tradition is to have a feast consisting of a turkey, homemade stuffing, sweet potatoes with pecans, cinnamon and marshmallows, cranberry relish, green beans with tomatoes and bacon bits, and of course, pumpkin custard pie. Throw in the whipped cream and the meal is complete. When we're finished, I clean up and everyone else sits around and enjoys the football games on TV.

I have an idea for a new tradition.  This year after dinner, we can put our names on tiny scraps of paper and draw two of them. One person will be on clean up duty and the other will be assigned to Tupperware duty. The assistant will have to pack up the food and put the leftovers away. This way I'll have time to buy myself a book on my I pad, grab a cup of creme brulee coffee, light a scented candle, and become lost in the story.

Join me in the start of a new tradition to gobble up a book after the holiday meal. Try a new genre and maybe a new author. It could be the start of a wonderful and exciting holiday tradition.

Madeline Young my heroine from my debut novel, Echoes at Dawn, is a chef.  She has a favorite recipe for an ice box pie. It's a simple treat.  She uses a box chocolate pudding, bananas, graham crackers and whipped topping. The layers begin with the pudding and ends with bananas and whipped cream.  Next, she refrigerates it for a couple of hours. Her family loves it.

:

The strangely intertwined lives of a widowed woman, and a charismatic bachelor come together in order to show that in life, there are no coincidences… only destiny.

Waterfront restaurant chef Madeline Young adores her job. If only her love and family's lives were as successful as her career. With a teenage son, who spends time in the emergency room for alcohol poisoning and a dementia-plagued mother, Madeline doesn't know how much more she could handle. Then her mother enlists the help of her deceased twin sister, Mary, to guide Madeline to find happiness. An early dawn visit from the spirit directs Madeline to volunteer at the local hospitals center for addiction recovery, where she comes alive for the first time in many years under the attention of Nat Griffin.

Nathaniel Griffin, a part-time counselor and contractor, fascinates his clients with his lectures. In keeping with his philosophy of professionalism, Nat prefers to keep his personal life private. When attraction tests his beliefs, Nat must confront his marred past. Is he willing to face his demons or take the easier path and remain isolated?

Can unworldly ghosts save this couple from their own self-destructive behavior? Will they be able to accept change and move forward, or allow secrets to stand in the way?

Great Blog, I love the idea of starting a new tradition the chore list, but really love the idea of finding a new genre and new author to read. I am going to take you up on that challenge. Lets see favorite tradition, is having an orphan thanksgiving where all our friends who have no family come to our house.

happy turkey day to you

Great blog! It made me hungry...which means the only favorite tradition I can think about is my family's classic stuffing. Yum!

Sounds like a fun new tradition

I might just take your suggestion for "after dinner" assignments. Usually everyone chips in anyway, but it does sometimes turn into a female versus male thing where the guys all hang out and the women are cleaning up. What's up with THAT?

Wishing you a very blessed holiday. the favorite thing I like about thanksgiving is when my daughters come over the evening before and we bake pies while drinking some cocktails. We laugh, cut up, and just have fun mixing up the pies. I enjoy being with my family on thanksgiving but the best part is the cooking with my daughters.

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is getting to see all of my family. It's a rare ocassion to get us all in the same house, and only happens a few times a year.

Thanks for participating in the hop. Love your chore share idea as we already do that at my mom in law's. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is getting together with family for dinner and later in the evening with dear friends for dessert.

Our family traditions have changed over the past couple of years because of health problems of some older members. I do like your idea though. I just might buy me a book after Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe a Christmas one to get me in the mood to decorate the next day...LOL

There are always plenty of volunteers to help clean up after Thanksgiving dinner in our family. Only one family member vegetates in front of the football game, the rest of us congregate in the kitchen. The thing is, that we don't always get together every year, so it's not the holiday that comes to mind when I think tradition.

Christmas is all about traditions, my dad's family has a get together at my Uncles house on Christmas Eve. It's a continuation of the family gathering that my grandparents had started. Over the years the menu has moved away from the typical turkey meal & we now have several variations on lasagna, salad, garlic bread & cookies.

Tradition with my family is the females doing the cooking and cleaning, and the guys usually wondering around stealing bites before dinner, lol. And of course, my dogs begging for food. It is always loud and crazy but very fun. Another tradition for me is watching to see my very skinny now 17 year old niece eat. She can really put it away.
