GUEST AUTHOR CLARE DARGIN

A Love So Close You Can Feel It

There's something about a hot guy in uniform who's touchable but at the same time out of reach.  That kind of man was on my mind when I wrote Colonel Medoro Keegan in Cold Warriors.  A man who has chosen to be an island onto himself, he is in a sea of humanity yet is alone.
Unlike some heroes of this sort, they have no friends and live on the fringes of society.  Keegan is anything but that.  He has two very good friends whom he trusts, he is respected by his colleagues and his considered to be on the career fast track but on the inside, he feels like a hamster on a wheel.  He's going through the motions but he ain't going any where.
All that changes when Caitlin Driskoll enters his life.  In the beginning just a 'passenger' in a cargo manifest, she is but one of many who are to be sent out as cannon fodder for a military with dwindling numbers.  In a frozen stasis for nearly a hundred years, because of a long gone medical fad, she awakens to find she has been recruited to fight in a war she knows nothing about.
From day one, her strength and her annoyance has been one the light that shone in an other wise darkened existence.  Attracted to her, he fights between the rules of his job and society which says they can't speak much less touch, they both struggle to not only survive but to explore the attraction they feel for each other.
In the second book, Ice and Peace:
A New Threat? After a long and vicious war, peace is on the horizon for Earth and its allies. However, a series of mysterious attacks on several secret military installations causes hostilities to rise once again.

Redemption. Having left under a cloud of disgrace, retired Marine Colonel Medoro Keegan is called back to duty.

Bound. His wife Caitlin, the only surviving member of her team, chooses to embrace life, albeit grudgingly, as a cryo soldier. Seen as sub-human, she is forced to serve a planet that denies her rights as a person.

Driven. Guided by their sense of duty and belief that some things are bigger than them, they are determined to risk it all.

Hope. The cost of war is high. Can their love and marriage survive? Or will it be killed off by the very same mission that brought them together?

Excerpt for Ice and Peace

Sir, a soft voice, feminine and sweet, beckoned his attention. He knew the voice, like he knew himself. His heart skipped a beat.
Rising slowly from his chair, Keegan cleared his throat and straightened his uniform. Suddenly, the room seemed unbearably long as he walked the three feet or so to be near her.
As he took in every detail of her, he was stunned silent. She wore a Marine Corps uniform with Navy insignia, with her hair neatly pinned off her neck and shoulders. Her clothes were pressed with a crease that could cut a major artery and her demeanor was impeccable. Something was not right.
Still, Caitlin was a sight for sore eyes. She was beautiful. Her petite frame was perfectly accented by the curves of her figure. And her brown eyes and coffee-brown skin was smooth, creamy.
Standing at attention, she did not meet his gaze. Though it was customary not to do as a sign of military courtesy, he could tell she was not doing it for that reason. Her gaze was different. Circling her, he tried to see if he could catch her watching him out of the corner of her eye.  In fact, she appeared to be staring blankly ahead.
Peering directly at her, he spoke in a soft tone. At ease.
She relaxed.
Cate. Can you hear me?
Yes, sir, she responded mechanically.
Pain pierced his insides. She was definitely not there. Keegan placed his hands on his hips and hung his head in defeat. The one thing that was supposed to go right did not. For whatever reason, they had placed her in a deeper state of mental control than shed ever been in. He controlled the hostile emotions brewing with him. Touching her face gently, he felt her icy skin.
This is unacceptable! Not here. I will not let this happen here. Not under my command.
Chief, listen up, he said in an authoritative tone. He knew in this state, it was the only way he could speak to her and still have her respond.
Yes, sir. Her gaze became even more distant.
Her response fueled his anger. You are going to hightail it down to the doc and receive a full examination. Tell him it is based on my orders. He will know what to do. Is that clear?
Yes, sir.
Knowing that she was under the influence of cryo neurotransmitters, Keegan figured the only way to combat it was to get someone to reverse it. They usually wore off once she was away from the stimulus triggers for a long period of time. But considering her stimulus triggers were high-ranking officers in uniform and combat situations, being around here meant she was going to be in a drone zone for a very long time. The last thing he needed was a zombie on board, especially one in charge of the lives others.
Only the jerks in psyche warfare thought doing this to someone would be a good idea. As long as he was running the ship, none of that would be allowed. There werent going to be any super zombies soldiers on board his ship. And hed rollover in his grave before he let them do it to his wife.
After you come back from the doc, you will report to me, understood?
Yes, sir.
Are there any questions?
No, sir.
Dismissed.
She did an about face before leaving the room. Keegan clasped his hands behind his back. In the blink of an eye, his joy had turned to sorrow. Now faced with the responsibility of looking after his wife, he wondered how could he handle the burden of command and still protect the woman he loved.

SPOTLIGHT AUTHOR JOANNE C. BERROA

Today I'm happy to share a beautiful story by Joanne C. Berroa!

Love’s Sweet Vengeance

BLURB

When you pair a beautiful, smart, and independent lady sheriff in New Mexico Territory  with a virile bounty hunter, you get sizzling chemistry, even though they’re at odds with each other and their objectives. Garrett Wade and Amanda Larson form a true to track down Clem Jones, a notorious outlaw who’s responsible for Garrett’s wife’s brutal murder. Amanda, a lawman first and foremost, wants to bring Jones in for a fair trial, while Garrett wants only revenge—his style. Their quest leads them into mortal danger while a powerful lust brings them together in ways neither bargained for. If only they can survive the treacherous Superstition Mountains and hostile Apaches while exacting justice on Clem Jones, they might have a chance to nurture their lust into an abiding love.

EXCERPT:

Through the trees a gray wolf appeared, its fangs dripping with saliva. The wolf saw Amanda the same time she saw it. She leveled the gun in her hand and was about to release a warning shot to scare away the wolf.
“Fire that gun and you’ll alert Clem Jones you’re on his tail.”
She turned quickly to her left where a man in black attire sat atop a handsome stallion. On his head was a ten gallon hat with ties beneath his chin. She recognized the face as that of Garrett Wade.
“How’d you get out of jail?” she asked.
He removed his hat and flung it deftly in the wolf’s direction, sending the animal scurrying back into the woods. Garrett dismounted and retrieved his hat. Dusting it off on the side of his leg, he crossed to where Amanda was standing.
“Your deputy’s a good man, Sheriff,” he said. “We had a little chat. I explained to him if he let me go, I’d look out for you and make sure no harm came to you. He said he promised your pa he’d take care of you. He admitted he didn’t like you riding out alone after that sonofabitch Jones.”
“John let you go?” she said, her pretty blue eyes wide as saucers.
“Sometimes it takes a man like him and not a boy like you to know what’s right and what’s wrong. He shares the same code of honor as I do.”
She frowned. Had she heard him correctly? He thought she was a boy? “A boy?” she said incredulously. “Are you calling me a boy?” Her scowl showed her irritation.
“No offense. You look kinda young to be a man.”
“You are a fool, Mister Wade. I’m not a boy. I’m a woman. ”
Even in the waning light she could see his startled expression and it pleased her. The idiot couldn’t tell a woman from a boy.
He looked her over as if seeing her for the first time then a slow smile spread across his face. He laughed. “Well, I’ll be damned. A woman sheriff? What won’t they think of next?”

MEET ROMANCE AUTHOR LILA MUNRO

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a forty-something empty-nester married to the Marine Corps and recently transplanted from the East Coast to the West Coast via a new duty station. I’m having a terrific time getting to know my new surroundings.
What do you do when you are not writing?
Honestly, I was a write-a-holic for the past several years as my husband has been away from home so much I sort of lived a life where I did what I wanted when I wanted because there was no one else around to consider. If I wanted to write at 2 a.m., I did so. If I wanted to skip dinner, I did so. Now that we’re a “normal” family again, I spend my not writing time getting used to this new “normal.” I cook regular meals and stay in bed after hours. ;) Right now, we’re spending a lot of time together exploring our new “home town.”
Do you have a day job as well?
Fortunately I have a wonderful, supportive provider so I’m afforded a life of luxury I know I am blessed to have so writing is my full time job.
How did you choose the genre you write in?
It sort of chose me.
Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Yes I do and it can be rather annoying.
Do you work with an outline, or just write?
Well, I start off with good intentions and an outline, but you know what they say about good intentions. The basis for the story remains pretty true to the outline, but there can be lots of weaving and bobbing along the way for me.
Can you tell us about your most recent work?
Love Vindicated, Steele Image Book 1, released June 17. Kyle Montgomery is one of my characters from the Identity series that simply would not let go of me and he ended up getting not just his own book but his own series. Steele Image novels will rotate around Kyle and his Steele Image clubs, for the most part they are BDSM themed and my readers will see my first full length m/m romance out of this series.

 Here’s the blurb:

In 1980, Kyle Montgomery’s life was seemingly perfect. Heavily recruited by Force Recon fresh from the Naval Academy, he’d been working black ops for the Marine Corps for six years and was on the cusp of being promoted to Major. He was on the fast track to bigger and better things, had all the right people vetting him, and he'd married the woman of his dreams and was exploring a lifestyle which could have ended his career.

With the Iranian embassy under siege and the Middle East in turmoil, Kyle was sent on a mission which would change the course of his life forever.

Returning home after three months of being invisible, Kyle finds his wife has been murdered by the very people he'd been sent to protect. And instead of the government retaliating, they hand him his walking papers with the agreement they’ll never speak of the events again. It's like Kyle never existed. His wife never existed. And the people who maimed and tortured her never existed.

Resigned to never again walk that path, Kyle opens the first Steele Image club with the thought of providing a safe haven for others like him, those who were invisible to the public and most of the government. Those who had eclectic sexual tastes. Those who would later become his allies. And his enemies. What he never expected, after settling into the comfortable role of detached service sadist, was to find someone to once again call lover. Haley Kilpatrick awakens the side of Kyle he believed dead, challenging him emotionally, physically, and intellectually and driving him back to the place he’d thought he’d let go of forever to vindicate his love…

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
Not only are these BDSM themed stories, they are also action packed as Kyle runs a mercenary business and is prior military. Being as my husband has devoted 25 years of his life to the Corps, the military/action elements are as real as I can make them. What answers he doesn’t have, his fellow marines do. So, in that respect they are based on real life—of course, there is always that creative license that exists, but I am the queen of realmantic so I try to keep it as real as possible.
What project are you working on now?
I have a couple of things I’m working on actually. Book 2 in the Steele Image series is coming along. It’s Dillon’s story, who has also appeared in the Identity series. I’m also working on the companion series, Steele Clips, two of which will release this summer. And, I have a very special project coming along—a contemporary romance entitled For His Country. It’s the story of an old-assed marine who’s at the retirement mark when his entire world flies apart and he has to figure out how to put it all back together, learn a few new tricks, or lose the woman he loves forever.

I THINK IT'S TIME FOR SOME FUN QUESTIONS.

Have you ever gone out in public with your shirt on backwards, or your slippers on, and when realizing it, just said screw it?

Um, no. During one of my husband’s deployments when the boy child was still at home I was so flustered one morning I left for work minus the bra…needless to say I couldn’t say screw it. And honestly, seeing people in their jammies and slippers in the store, well, disturbs me to say the least. Being a military wife, with an entire command watching me, I was taught better and it’s sometimes hard for me not to go up to these people and yell at them to go the hell home and put on some clothes—clothes that fit at that, not hang off your butt or show all your assets.

Do you prefer fuzzy or tube socks?

I have shorty cotton socks I walk in and fuzzy scrunchies for those cool evenings.

Are you a person who makes their bed in the morning, or do you not see much point?

I definitely see the point, but there are days…

Be honest, how often do you wash your hair?

Every day. Sometimes twice if I do something strenuous and get it all amok and sweaty. ;)

Do you get road rage? What pisses you off the most about other drivers?

Absolutely not. Road rage gets people dead and in a hurry. So, no. In fact, my husband calls me Miss Ten and Two. I used to see a lot of road rage around Lejeune and I saw a lot of accidents that were the result. No, no, and definitely no. Other drivers don’t so much piss me off as just scare the shit out of me at times. I saw a woman on the free-way once applying make-up, talking on the phone, and smoking all at once…um, was the car driving itself? Oddly, road rage doesn’t seem to exist in the greater Portland area, at least that I’ve seen. I’m sure it’s out there, but it’s nowhere near what I experienced on the East Coast.

Do you go outside without make-up? Or to you put on full make-up to go to the grocery store?

I used to be fanatical about not leaving the house without make-up. However, I went through a period not long ago where I faced some demons and now it’s not above me to dart to the corner grocery for a gallon of milk naked-faced. I’m pretty—It just took me a long time to know that and believe it. It’s not the norm for me, I usually have it on even when I’m just working at the desk all day, but I don’t freak out if I have to go outside without it. Never leave without my sunscreen though—that’s essential. I don’t want to be Miss Leatherface when I’m 50. Yuck!

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

That depends on if it’s a make-up day or not. J Not long. I’m usually in and out from shower to final touches in less than 45 minutes and can do it in 30 in a pinch.

What’s your favorite dessert?

I’m a southern woman. It’d be sacrilege not to admit it’s Red Velvet Cake.

Do you watch soap operas?

No, I write them-ha!

Are you a reality show fan?

Definitely not! I think reality TV is the stupidest thing to hit TV…well, ever. My motto has always been if you want reality walk a mile in my shoes—that’s real! I’m sure most of those reality stars would wilt within the first hour trying to live my life.

HERE'S A LOOK AT SOME OF LILA'S OTHER BOOKS!

I enjoyed speaking with you, Lila. It's great to learn more about you. We have a few things in common. I'd love to have a cup of coffee together. A piece of Red Velvet Cake would be great. All the best with your writing. Congrats on a wonderful body of work. I'd love to have you visit me here again, anytime.

Thanks, Kathleen for having me over and thanks readers for coming by to spend a bit of time with me.  Please come by and find me at Realmantic Moments or like me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LilaMunroAuthor!

GUEST AUTHOR CATHERINE PEACE

BLURB

Vampire Kiernan Shaw has never forgotten the night twenty years ago when he’d been forced to stand by while another vampire killed a six-year-old girl’s parents in front of her. He’s spent the better part of the last two decades watching over her, protecting her and hoping for an opportunity to make amends one day.

Ever since surviving the vampire attack that killed her parents, Moira Curran has dealt with the resulting nightmares and abandonment issues the only way she could—by throwing herself into her biochemistry career, preferring a life of a hermit in her lab to facing the reality of her lonely life.

Madame Eve brings them back together for one fateful night. An immediate bond of sizzling chemistry and respect forms, but can it heal her fears and his guilt?

I'm happy Cate was able to sneak Moira away to answer a few questions.

Moira, first things first. Can you tell the readers at home a little about yourself?

Oh, sure. I used to be a biochemist and lab hermit. Now I’m a completely badass vampire. …Hey, you smell good…

*Clears throat* Um, thank you…?

I’m kidding. You really do smell good, but Kiernan’s teaching me to control my urges.

So I’m safe.

You’re safe.

Good. So it was a difficult date for you guys at first, right?

Yeah. Considering how Kiernan and I met, I was ready to stake him or at least set him on fire with a taper candle. But he won me over.

Wine and flowers will do that.

So will brutal honesty and patience. Which I needed more. Though the rest was very sweet.

At what point did you realize you wanted to be with him?

When I realized I wasn’t scared. I can’t exactly pinpoint it—everything’s still a little bit of a blur—but I’d never had a day I felt truly safe until I met him. I believed what he said about protecting me, and I was…sold on the idea of a life with him. It’s really weird, don’t you think?

Do you believe in true love?

*Laughs* I do now. I didn’t before. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. The concept of “soul mates” and “true love” just seemed like fairy tales. With him, though, I know I’ve found my other half. I’m not going to go spouting Hallmark-isms or anything, but it’s nice.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about using Madame Eve’s service?

DO IT. No matter what you think, no matter what anyone tells you, do it. She’s amazing, and she’ll find the right person for you. Even if they don’t seem so right at the time…

Thanks, Moira, for joining me, and thanks, Kathleen, for hosting us! Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Firefighter Dani Harris has always wanted a family, but doesn’t think it’s possible because of her demanding, high-stakes career. Her sex life is as high-adrenaline as her job, and that’s just one more thing that makes her unsuitable to be a wife and mother. Her secret kink—exhibitionism—has gotten in the way of more than one relationship. Will she ever find a man who not only shares her wild fantasies, but loves her for them?

Burdened with ensuring the success of the struggling family business, William Caldwell IV needs a wife suited for a CEO—one with money and connections, who can manage his busy social life and raise their 2.5 children. He’s got everything all mapped out, but when he meets Dani, a woman who’s nothing but every kind of wrong, she taps into desires he’s only half-recognized and long-suppressed. COVER REVEAL FOREVER FREED BY LAURA KAYE

About Forever Freed:

A heart can break, even one that no longer beats.

I stalk my new neighbors, a single mother and her child, drawn by the irresistible scent of their joy and love. I crave their blood, starved for some healing respite from my ancient guilt and grief. Now to lure them into my grasp.

But they surprise me. Little Olivia accepts me without fear--talking, smiling, offering innocent affection that tugs at my long-lost humanity. Her mother, Samantha, seeks me out when she should stay away, offering sweet friendship, and tempting the forgotten man within me. They lure me instead.

Ah, Dio, Lucien, run and spare them while you can...

 Excerpt (Adult):

The bedroom door had barely clicked behind me when Samantha grabbed and shoved me toward the bed. I fell backward, and she was on top of me, clawing at my clothes and ripping off her own. Whatever had been going on with her all day was now clearly finding a release.

“Sam?”

She kissed me roughly and shoved her tongue into my mouth. I groaned and pushed her back.
Though we french kissed all the time, I generally kept her out of my mouth.

“Sam?”

Finally, she stilled. With her hands braced on my shoulders, her eyes burned down into mine. Her anger squeezed my chest. Her voice was strained. “Lucien, we’ll talk later. I promise. But right now I want you, and I need you. And I need you to know it, feel it.” Her words clarified little, but I nodded.

She unleashed herself on me, kissing and licking and roughly nipping at my upper body all while
maintaining eye contact. I thrust my hips into her when she lingered over my Blood Mark. I finally had to grab her hair and tug her attention away from it.

With a groan, she reached a hand down between her legs and worked herself as she devoured me. When I realized what she was doing, I moaned and gripped her shoulders and rolled on top of her.

I grabbed her hand and pulled it to my mouth, then noisily sucked on her wet fingers. I groaned at the sweet nectar of her arousal.

“You see what you do to me, Lucien? What only you do to me?” she rasped. “Take me, Lucien. I’m yours,” she offered as she planted her feet flat on the mattress and pushed herself up forcefully against my erection.

Her aggression spurred mine, and I grunted. “You want me?” I asked as I ground myself against
her wetness. She ran a hand over the bedspread and found the packet she’d apparently laid out earlier. She slid herself against me as she opened it and then rolled on the condom. “God, yes,” she whimpered.

I plunged forward and filled her in one hard stroke. She screamed and wrapped herself around
me. Hard breaths and grunts and strained curses in two languages filled the room as we battled through Samantha’s emotions with our bodies. She kissed me roughly and dug her nails into my flesh. The physical pain mingled with her radiating pleasure to coax what I was sure was going to be one of the most intense orgasms I’d ever experienced.

She came in a frenzy of screams and muscle contractions. And then bit against the taut skin at
the base of my neck. Hard.

My fangs and release shot out at the same time. I growled and in a blur turned my head in search of my biceps. I missed the tender skin of her shoulder by a hair as the urge to bite down became irresistible.

Finally, I willed my fangs to retract and licked at the wound I’d made on my arm, then slid down a little and laid my head on her heaving breasts.

“I love you,” I whispered breathlessly.

She hugged my shoulders and combed her fingers through my hair. “I love you, too.” We lay together, panting, for a long time. “Lucien?” I lifted my head off her chest to look at her. “I’m ready to talk now.”
