SPOTLIGHT & GIVEAWAY ~ FIREWORKS AT MIDNIGHT ~ BY TARA QUAN

New Year’s Eve is a night filled with bright colorful lights, rambunctious outings, and a good amount of mischief. It also marks the passage of time, bringing to mind our hopes for the future, the exhilaration that comes with change, and fond memories of days past. Part of Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand line, my paranormal romantic comedy Fireworks at Midnight features a struggling college graduate who is just coming to terms with the thrills and perils of newfound independence. When her best friend’s older brother rolls back into town, this intrepid young witch is faced with help she doesn’t want, protection she doesn’t need, and the reality that this warlock cop no longer thinks of her as a “troublesome little sister.”
Add a pinch of magic, supernatural mayhem, and Madame Eve’s renowned matchmaking service, and we’ve got the beginnings of a stormy love story. Those who’ve read my Christmas release Frosty Relations will already know Dulcina “Sweets” Gato, this tale’s smartass heroine. In keeping with the holiday spirit I’m giving away a $15 gift card. To enter, leave a comment here and drop your details in the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of this post. [or at my website: TaraQuan.com/FireworksAtMidnight]

Fireworks at Midnight (A Witch’s Night Out, 3)
Recent college graduate and part-time cat familiar Dulcina “Sweets” Gato is having the worst New Year’s Eve in living memory. End of year expenses trigger serious cash flow problems, and her microwave just went up in smoke. To make matters worse, her best friend’s overprotective big brother is back in town, and his return threatens to put a huge crimper on her nocturnal activities. The only thing she can look forward to is Madame Eve’s 1-Night Stand service. After all, she’s sick and tired of being a 21-year-old virgin.
Enforcement Agent Mikal Knight is a warlock on a mission. Having finally scored a transfer to Washington, D.C., he’s now at liberty to pursue the object of his desires—his baby sister’s best friend. But first, he has a vigilante to track down and a mysterious matchmaking service to investigate. Sent on an undercover operation, he resigns himself to a pointless 1-Night Stand on New Year’s Eve. As luck would have it, his mystery date’s identity might let him kill several birds with one stone.

Excerpt
His gaze drifted to her chest. A gust of wind sliced over it, tearing off the top- most button. She jumped in her seat. “What the hell?”
“Welcome to Strip Interrogation. The rules are simple.” Her toes curled at the playful yet predatory gleam in his stormy eyes. Yup, he got her invitation loud and clear. “Whenever you give me a crap answer, I take away a stitch. Any questions?”
She licked her lips. “Is this how Enforcement trained you to question helpless witches?”
He crossed his arms and put on a mockery of a stern expression. “[…] The gloves come off when there’s a badass in the car.”
Her cheeks warmed at the backhanded compliment. Placing her hands primly on her lap, she squeezed her upper arms together to better showcase what little boobage she had. When she heard his warning growl, she batted her eyelashes. “What’s your question, Detective?”
He bared his teeth at her, but his breath had turned shallow. […] In a quicksilver move, he lunged forward and captured her nape with one hand. Holding her shoulder in place, he looped his free arm around her waist, splayed his fingers against her lower back, and yanked her toward him. The motion tipped her off balance. With a yelp, she placed her hands on the seat and straightened her arms. The position arched her back, lifting her breasts like an offering. […]
He settled his thumb between her collarbones. “I warned you about the skirt.”
The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Damn, was that menacing tone sexy. “Any chance we can work this out? I’m running low on winter clothes.”
With his free hand, he explored her abs, his fingers lingering on each groove long enough to send a tingle down her spine. His hungry expression more than paid for the hours she’d spent doing crunches. “What do you have in mind?”
Having devoured plenty of inspiring reading material, she had a long list of things she wanted to try. “I’m all stocked up on underwear.”

SPOTLIGHT ~ RAPTURE ON THE HIGH SEAS ~ BY JOANNE BERROA

Today I'm happy to be featuring  my friend, the talented Joanne Berroa. She's got a new release with Rebel Ink Press. Let's welcome her and consider adding Rapture On The High Seas to our Christmas list.

Title: Rapture on the High Seas
Genre: Contemporary pirate romance novella
Rebel Ink Press: Dec. 10, 2014

Blurb:

Laurel Vanderman Delacroix is the daughter of billionaire Victor Vanderman, owner and CEO of multi-national World One Bank. Although Laurel has a high level job within the family business, her life is unfulfilled, and she takes an extended African vacation with friends aboard her multi-million dollar yacht. She never expects to be hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean, some three hundred miles out in International waters off the coast of Tanzania. She has no way of knowing that this is no random act of piracy. Someone who wants to bankrupt her father set the hijacking in motion, and the perpetrator doesn’t care what happens to Laurel and her friends in the process.
The Somali pirate leader who captures Laurel and her friends aboard Bubbles is extremely competent and dangerous, which makes him a force to be reckoned with. He’s also an astute businessman with millions in his Swiss bank account. Will this Somali pirate carry out his mission and put Laurel’s and her friends’ lives on the line, or does he subscribe to another agenda? Will he capture Laurel’s heart along with his ransom demands, or completely destroy it?
Rapture on the High Seas is a contemporary story of intrigue and betrayal. Above all else, it’s a sensual tale of love that’ll leave you feeling warm all over and believing that nothing is ever as it seems.

Excerpt:

The shadow came alive as it stepped into the moonbeam. He was so tall his head almost touched the ceiling. Even in her state of terror, the intruder, fully armed with an automatic weapon, reminded her of Ares, the Greek god of war. Who was this man and what was he doing here? A raw scent of danger engulfed her as she sat bolt upright and reached for the cover sheet. Although the climate-controlled air conditioning in the yacht rendered the boat cool and comfortable, she’d worn only a black bra and panties to bed. She held the sheet together across her breasts and managed to speak a few choice words. With false bravado she said, “Who are you, and what do you want?”
He stepped closer to her bed, and she gasped. He truly was Ares, tall and thickly built, and he carried an AK-47. If he didn’t mean to use the weapon, why was he flaunting it? Fear brought bile to her throat, and she swallowed hard.
“You’ve been hijacked, Mrs. Delacroix.”
She inhaled sharply. Hijacked!  “You know my name?”
He nodded.
“Are you a Somali pirate?”
“I like to think of myself as a businessman with an attitude.”
Businessman? Hardly. He was a pirate. She knew it as well as she knew her own name. How did a bloodthirsty pirate get aboard her yacht? She hadn’t heard anything amiss. Or had she? She squared her shoulders as anger replaced fear. “Well, take your attitude and get off my boat.”
“Can’t do that.”

SPOTLIGHT & GIVEAWAY ~ SAVING SULTAN ~ BY JENNAH SCOTT

Saving Sultan
by Jennah Scott
Blurb.

Dillon Sultan never imagined he might some day lose Sultan Ranch. He’s got one month to find the money needed to keep bank from taking his family’s land. One month to find a miracle.

Liam Callahan hasn’t talked to his best friend since the night they kissed six years ago. Now he’s got a chance to make things right and catch the man of his dreams. But first, he has to help Dillon figure out a way to keep Sultan Ranch.

But when Dillon’s family is betrayed, and he learns that Liam hasn’t been totally honest with him, will he lose everything that matters most?

EXCERPT

Liam glanced at the letter in front of him once more. Patrick Sultan was four months behind on his mortgage, and the bank was ready to take everything.

To Liam, Patrick was a surrogate father. One he couldn’t figure out how to help. He hated seeing the official notice in his in-box this morning. What had started as a good day went downhill thirty seconds after he opened his e-mail. Liam wasn’t a loan officer, but he did work with Patrick on his personal banking accounts. For that reason, he kept his finger on the pulse of the business accounts as well. He pulled up the old man’s personal information once he’d read the letter. Empty. The next balance he checked could have resulted in immediate termination. The customer wasn’t assigned to him. In his position, he had access to everyone’s information, but he wasn’t supposed to view anything without the holder’s authorization.

Dillon Sultan would not give him the okay. Of that, Liam was sure. Even with the risk, he entered the ten-digit number and called up the current total balance. He was still staring at the four figures when the phone echoed through the office.

“Liam Callahan, how can I help you?”

The person on the other end cleared his throat. The deep voice that followed made his heart stop. Not skip a beat, but a dead stop. Skipping would have been too easy to recover from.
