SPOTLIGHT ~ SIN AT SEA ~ BY EMMA NICHOLS

Sin At Sea By Emma Nichols

***Blurb***
When Alysin surprised her boyfriend at work with dinner, the surprise was on her. Since he was going at it with his secretary on the conference table, she packed a bag and called her BFF. Jolie and Alysin have been traveling the country, working as digital nomads for ten years, ever since graduation. Taking this as a sign it was time for a new move, they decide to take a cruise, regroup, and make a plan. Then she meets Mr. Bedroom Eyes. Following her lead, they pretend to be married so she can rid herself of the guy who started hitting on her before the boat left the dock. Though it’s supposed to be a momentary arrangement, he asks her to take it one step farther. Then another and another. The cruise promises to be memorable in every way that matters. Along the way, Alysin learns she won't have to fake an orgasm if she's with someone who knows what to do, that not all men suck but the best ones suck really well, and that sometimes what starts out as something pretend can fast become something completely real. Will the woman who lives life with no regrets, regret that she made that stupid rule about not exchanging names and contact info?

***Excerpt***

Maybe this time I was on my own. Then I saw him. He had those classic good looks, pretty without looking feminine; a strong jaw, beautiful deep blue eyes, and rich brown hair that was thick and begged to be touched. Why couldn’t that guy have pulled out my chair?
Standing, I smoothly stepped in front of him. “Babe, did you not see me? I was right here. Did you get my Coke?” I could see he was mildly shocked. No problem. I could fix that. In a few seconds he was going to be majorly shocked. In fact, I planned to render him speechless...and malleable. I stood on my tiptoes and planted a kiss on the tip of his nose. As I imagined, I was offered a hungrier look. That’s when I made my move. Slowly, I matched my lips to his and then shifted so I was angled and we were kissing...really really kissing. Thankfully, he played along. Seconds later he had played right into my hand. Wow wow wow.
“Help me, please,” I breathed into his ear.
“Anything for you, sexy.” He sealed his vow with a kiss on my cheek that totally did not suck. He looked over at my intruder. “Who’s this guy?” he asked, jerking his thumb in the guy’s direction.
“I have no idea. I’m sure he was just keeping the seat warm for you, though.” I smiled at him and frowned over at the guy who was keeping me from my meal.
“Uh, yeah, I was just leaving,” the man mumbled. Then he stood up as he muttered apologies and soon walked away. The new guy sat down. I stared over at him while trying to read the situation. For all I knew, I had simply traded one douche for another. Historically speaking, it wouldn’t shock me.
“Hey, don’t mind me. I just ended up getting drawn into your little charade. Hope you don’t mind if I enjoy my meal while we keep up appearances?” He smiled.
“Nope. We’re good,” I replied although I was admittedly wary.
While I was smiling at him, I had little to say. There was so much going on in my mind...and thanks to Jolie, having an orgasm wasn’t part of it. The longer he sat, not making a move, the more interesting he became. Maybe I wasn’t desperate for sex, but I wasn’t going to turn down the possibility of some amazing guilt-free sex with a hot guy for anything. Only I wasn’t sure how to gain his attention. My smile hadn’t worked. The kiss hadn’t accomplished anything. What was it going to take to get a man like this to be interested in spending a few meaningless days on a cruise with me? Guess I’d simply have to try the direct approach.
“
Are you married?” I asked, confident if that didn’t break the ice, nothing would.
“No,” he said, cocking his head.
I leaned in. “Really? Because you look like the marrying kind.” I took another bite of my potato salad while I studied his reaction.
Throwing his head back to laugh, he said, “I run too fast. No one can catch me, let alone keep up.” He punctuated his sentence with a wink.
Clearly I was going to have to be the one to get the conversation started. “Thank you for saving me. I’m here with my friend. She is napping right now. I’m not used to having to fend off guys anymore,” I admitted as I kept on eating. Isn’t it nice when you don’t want anything serious from someone and you can just be yourself? That was the freedom I felt around Mr. Bedroom Eyes.
He smiled and I saw he started to extend his hand. I had the feeling he was about to introduce himself, so I stopped him. “Listen, you can tell me your name, but I’m just going to forget it. I’m lousy with names.”
“Okay, so we’re not exchanging names? Is there anything you would like to exchange?” He smirked.
“Yes, as a matter of fact. How about bodily fluids?” I smiled and stared at him with a suggestive
look.He...choked on his Coke. When he finally stopped coughing, I was about finished eating. I don’t let much come between my food and me even if I don’t look like it.
“Sorry, I’m not used to women being so direct,” he said with a smile as he wiped his face.
“I don’t play,” I said honestly. Then I stood. I am known for my exits. As I turned, giving him full view of what I considered my best feature, I shot over my shoulder, “Think about it.” Then I walked away. Always...and I mean always leave them wanting more. I didn’t have to look back to know he was staring at me. Let him stare. With my head up and shoulders back, I headed to the elevator.

SPOTLIGHT ~ HIDING OUT~ BY NICOLE ANDREWS MOORE

Hiding Out (The Davenport Agency Book 1)
By Nicole Andrews Moore

***Blurb***

Samuel Davenport runs his family's New York based advertising agency. His brother, Adam, runs from responsibility and anything remotely boring. And his temp, Haley, runs so she'll never be caught and hurt again. She moved to the city New Year's Day to hide and recover, to build a new life far from her past. In an effort to lie low, Haley never expects to be more than a temp. What begins for Sam as an excuse to get to know her better, ends up being an opportunity for advancement and excitement for Haley. When Sam tries to uncover all of Haley's mysteries, he exposes her hiding place, endangers her life, and threatens to destroy any chance of them ever having a future together.

***Excerpt***
Haley had grabbed at her chest and was now attempting a smile, but couldn’t quite pull it off. “Damn it, Haley,” he murmured as he squatted next to her desk. “I’m sorry.” Samuel struggled against reaching out to her. He closed his eyes for a moment as he imagined crushing her to his chest and burying his face in her hair. He took a few deep calming breaths, then opened his eyes.
When his gaze met hers, he found her eyes welling up with tears and it was more than he could stand. “Come on,” he said quietly, grabbing her hand and leading her into his office. “Please sit down.” He gestured to the leather sofa that so frequently held his napping brother.
“No, I’m sorry,” Haley said, dabbing at her eyes. “I feel so silly. I don’t know why I’m crying.”
He passed her a Kleenex, then said, “Yes, you do. Take a moment, then explain it to me.”
She sighed, but soon her words came spilling out of her. “You looked so sorry and so sad and so helpless. And I can’t help but think that I put that look on your face.” She was exasperated. “All of a sudden you are treating me like blown glass, which is nice and scary and unfamiliar all at once. It’s like you really care or...” Haley faced him with a stricken look. “You know.” Her body shuddered and she eyed the door, something he had watched her do on more than one occasion.
And he now knew what it meant. “Don’t go,” he said quietly. Then he added seriously, “I don’t know anything for certain. All I know is that it is painfully obvious someone hurt you. And that,” he said almost whispering, “breaks my heart.”
Looking down at her lap, Haley sat stone still. Part of her wanted desperately to pour her heart out to him, but she feared that this knowledge would be too much for him. “Someday,” she whispered. “Someday I’d really like to tell you. But it can’t be today. And it can’t be now.” She swallowed and looked up at him with her glassy emerald eyes. “Can you be patient with
me?”That was what everyone he had come into contact with had warned him. The good doctor, her friend Ellen...and he knew he could. She was worth it. “Yes,” he responded.

SPOTLIGHT ~ VIXEN IN VEGAS ~ BY EMMA NICHOLS

Vixen In Vegas (A Sinful Novel Book 2)

***Blurb***

It was supposed to be a week of simply being, of living in the moment and enjoying every minute while it lasted. Of course, that kind of intoxication can have lingering effects.
For Sin, she finds herself wanting to break all the rules, to extend her time with the stranger who stole her heart. Vegas is just the right kind of place to take such a gamble.
Meeting up with BE at the gondolas is a risk. Love goes against everything they'd promised one another. But the best things in life can’t be planned. Soon Alysin will be tested. After guarding her heart for so long, she finally lets a man in and discovers that the worst things in life happen when she least expects them.
When she walks in on BE with another woman and overhears their heated conversation, she suddenly remembers there is a reason she made these rules.
Will broken rules lead to broken hearts?
Or will she realize that though love is a gamble - - she's all in?

***Excerpt***

“Seriously? I’m fearless. What do I have to be afraid of? I’m not tied down. I can move whenever I want. I have the best kind of job security ever, since I’m self-employed. Hell, I like me so much, I’ll never fire me!” My chin jutted out in defiance as I attempted to convince him how great my life was.
Sitting up slowly, he looked at me, the concern evident. “So, if you get hurt, you just move? If you get in a fight, you just move?” For the first time, he looked afraid. Then he shook his head. “It sounds lonely to me. It sounds like you go to great lengths to avoid dealing with feelings.” He edged closer to me, pushing my long dark hair out of my face. “Haven’t you ever had anything in your life worth sticking around for?” He cupped my face in his hand. I reached up and held it there for a moment with my eyes closed.
That was a lot to consider. That was a lot to analyze. “I left home after graduation because I wanted a change. I needed more excitement in my life. Jolie and I agreed to never live in the same state twice. There was no need, not with fifty states to choose from,” I said with a shy smile.
“And if you ran out of states?” he asked with a raised brow.
“There’s always the Caribbean, then Europe,” I said with a shrug.
“Okay,” he began slowly. “This is a good start. This is what I want...to get to know you.”
Shaking my head in confusion, I asked, “What?”
“Renegotiating our terms. I want to get to know you. All the boring stuff...life by the typical stats: name, date of birth, occupation, last known address...phone number, email, that kind of thing. I want it all with you, Sin. I want the possibility of forever wrapped in a hundred million moments.

It features a clueless fire mage, his fed-up cat familiar, and Madame Eve’s renowned one-night stand service. Flirting with Fire (A Witch’s Night Out, 1)
Apprentice witch Catalina Gato is prohibited from assuming her human form in front of her new employer without his express permission. Since he doesn’t know he’s a warlock, he can’t give it, leaving her in a familiar’s limbo. On All Hallows’ Eve, she gets one night of freedom. Deciding some no-strings-attached sex might take the edge off the intense attraction she feels for her clueless boss, she signs up for Madame Eve’s service. When she meets her masked mystery date at the Castillo Capital, she realizes she might have gotten much more than she bargained for.
After being gifted a one-night stand from his annoying best friend, attorney Leo Difuoco reluctantly ventures to the Castillo Capital to celebrate Halloween. Excerpt  (PG-ish)
Her lips pursed, [Cat Woman] stared down at him for a long moment. Then she muttered, “What the hell,” and dropped her very attractive behind onto the opposite seat. “So, this is your idea of an easy place to pick up chicks in costume?”
Not only was the question out of place, it bore an uncanny similarity to something he might have said to his cat. “Well…one in particular, I guess. What’s your name, by the way?”
“Cat.”
She had to be joking. Or she obfuscated on purpose. He decided on the latter. After all, keeping one’s identity hidden made for a great exit strategy. “Mine’s Leo.”
She lifted the leather menu and opened it, blocking his view of her face. “I know.”
Madame Eve must employ a double standard, revealing the identity of men and not women. Another possible theory was Jack had forged the card and kept the woman’s details a secret on purpose. Both explanations seemed plausible. “What else do you know about me?”
She flipped a page. “Everything.”
Talk about unfair. Cat Woman must have received an actual profile, complete with a photo and an option to decline the date. “It might not be all true.”
She tilted the menu forward an inch, revealing the top half of her masked face. “What?”
“The profile you read. Jack has a weird sense of humor. You shouldn’t trust any of it.”
Her eyelids lowered into a slight squint, something the non-human Cat he knew had a habit of doing whenever he forgot to grab his keys. “I don’t follow.”
“It’s obvious you received some basic information about me.” When she shook her head, he waved off the denial. “It’s not a big deal, but I thought I should tell you someone else filled everything out. Since I hadn’t been offered a file on you at all, we should pretend this is a normal date and start over.”
With a shrug and a swift nod, she put the menu down, pulled her gloves off, and reached an arm across the table. The smile she sent him made his stomach do an unsettling flip. “My name is Catalina Gato. I’m a maid, accountant, and shape-shifting witch with a clueless boss and very meddlesome sister.”
What a sense of humor. Considering her costume, cat burglar would have been funnier, but she deserved bonus points for saying it all with a straight face. He took her hand and fought the odd urge to grab her, kiss her silly, and tear her clothes off.
The candle’s flame changed from blue to white. Then the fire shot up in a straight line, six inches high. Another round of nervous clapping followed.
Their palms still touching, he frowned. “Someone here must love Halloween. These special effects are over the top, not to mention dangerous.”
She shook her head and broke contact. Hints of disbelief and resignation laced her bell-like laugh. “Do you think Gomez has recovered enough to send a waiter our way?”

SPOTLIGHT & GIVEAWAY ~ WAKE ME ~ BY ALEXA BOURNE

Psychic Dreams…What Are They Really All About?
It wasn’t until 1997 when someone close to me shared what she believed was a psychic dream. I had never heard of this so I tried to be as open-minded as I could. The more she spoke, the more interested I became. She talked about some of the dreams she’d had over the years and how she’d tried to stop them from coming. For a while, she tried to decipher them and figure out how to understand her gift. But nothing she did uncovered more understanding of the unwanted ability and soon she stopped speaking at all of her gift.
As the days rolled by, the writer in me began wondering what must it truly be like to have this ability, no way to control it and no one believing you? What would it be like to dream events and not be able to make a difference? How would a woman deal with the ability if it had gotten her into a lot of trouble? As the days rolled by, the seeds of Wake Me were planted.
Sarah, the heroine of the book, has run away from her home city in hopes of escaping her ability of dreaming the future and all the trouble it has caused. But her dreams refuse to leave her alone and soon after her arrival in Austin, she sees the death of a college graduate student. I had such a great time trying to get into her brain, to understand her motivations and her reluctance to explore her gift. And once Jesse, the detective hero, showed up on the page, he brought a whole new layer of complications, a layer I had so much fun uncovering. I hope you enjoy Wake Me!

Blurb:
Her psychic dreams come true.
Sarah McKinley’s attempts to take her foreknowledge of crimes to the Seattle Police Department marked her as a troublemaker and were never taken seriously. Starting over in Austin, she plans never to reveal her gift, but shortly after she arrives, the dreams begin again, and the local police want to know why she has knowledge only the killer could possess.
Detective Jesse Cordell watched his mother con people with her “psychic ability” all through his childhood. He hones in on Sarah, who has means, motive, and opportunity to have murdered the victim in his current investigation. Instinct tells him she didn’t commit the crime, but she definitely knows more than she’s letting on.
Can he put aside his doubts and join forces with her, against everything he believes in, to find the real killer? Or will he do his job and put her behind bars? After all, there’s no such thing as the “psychic ability.” Or is there?

Excerpt:
The buzz around her head grew louder as more students joined the crowd. Yellow tape secured the crime scene several yards away, but limbs still stuck over the cement edge of the water fountain.
A guy in plain clothes ducked under the tape and ventured toward them. A gold shield hung from his belt. “Can anybody tell me what happened?”
“She can!” a male voice from behind called out.
Hoping to take attention off herself, Sarah joined the other students in whirling around to see who the guy meant. Several voices rushed toward the man, accosting him with different versions of the crime. Sarah floated through the sea of people, away from the crowd.
For the nine months, she’d lived in Austin, she’d never mentioned a word about her so-called psychic gift. Almost a full year had passed. She’d started to think she would be normal again.
But a brand-new dream reminded her she would always be different.
Heading toward the street, she picked up her steps. Don’t look back. You’ve done enough damage.
“Miss! Hey, wait up!”
“Damn.” She slowed her feet. No point in trying to run. She’d look guilty of something then the cops would have a reason to haul her off the school campus in cuffs.
Turning, she came face-to-face with the striking plain-clothes cop. “I’m Detective Cordell with Austin Police.” He stood at least six inches taller than she, his jet-black hair sheared in a standard cut for police. The bulk of his chest stretched the material of his short-sleeved dress shirt. With dark eyes and sexy confidence, he was all sorts of captivating. If he hadn’t been such a threat to her freedom, she might even have called him handsome. “Do you have a minute? I’d like to ask you some questions.”
There died his charm.
