SPOTLIGHT ~ HALF-SOUL ~ BY KATHERINE RHODES

Half-Soul

by Katherine Rhodes

The Blurb

Hell called to his soul, but his soul resisted.
Or that’s what Asher Terhune believed.
Born from the demonic seduction of his human mother, his birth destroyed her marriage. They were left with only a Guardian and Watcher to protect them from his demon heritage. Born with a half-soul, Asher quickly learned to use the Seven Deadly Sins to fill the hole inside himself.
His favorite sin was Lust.
Women had no chance of a second night with Asher, once he was done with them. And he had no intention of changing his ways. Until the sweet, calm, caring Sarah Illfrig rocked his world, and refused his bed.
Asher found her refusal unacceptable and took on the challenge of seducing her. Sarah pushed him away even as the desire she felt for him was pulling her in.
But Sarah harbored her own secrets, and when the Guardian and the Watcher found out, it became imperative to keep Sarah and Asher apart.

The Excerpt

“I’m sorry this turned into such a damn mess tonight,” Asher said, helping her out of the car at her apartment.
“It was only those demons at the end that were any kind of problem,” Sarah said. “They kind of put a damper on the whole vibe. Is Vassago really going to be able to make a claim on his insurance? I didn’t know they had a demon clause.”
Asher laughed. “Are you okay with all of this? A week ago you were just Sarah, the girl whose sickness no one could figure out.”
She paused. “You know, as strange as this is going to sound, yes. I’m okay with it. It explains so much about everything that’s gone on in my life and with my health. I’m oddly comforted by the fact I’m not normal and no doctor will be able to cure this. I did everything right, but this is beyond what regular medicine can do. And I’m okay with that.” She smiled sheepishly. “Especially if it means I get to be close to you.”
Asher returned the smile. “Does this mean I’m off your shit list?”
“Mostly,” Sarah answered.
“Mostly?”
Sarah keyed the door to the building open. “Mostly. We’ll see if I wake up with a job tomorrow.”
“I’m not going to fire you,” Asher said. “That used to happen after we slept together.”
Sarah looked at him. “Like I said, we’ll see if I wake up with a job in the morning.”
Asher got it. He rushed in through the door behind her and spun her against the wall, carefully. “I’m really that far off your shit list?”
“You’ve done everything right, Asher,” she said. “You stuck to every boundary I set up. You’ve been nothing but a gentleman. The only thing you were forward about was finding me yesterday evening and asking me to help you with the emptiness. That’s not really an infraction in my opinion. After tonight, that whole protecting everyone that you and Gad and Vassago did, you’re mostly off my ‘do not fly’ list.”
He leaned a hand on the wall and pushed a little closer. “And what do I have to do to get completely off your ‘do not fly’ list?”
“Two things.” She smiled. “That I wake up still employed tomorrow and how many times you can make me come.”
Asher couldn’t formulate an answer. He gave up and dropped his head to hers, pressing his lips across hers. His first taste of her was one of sugar and strawberries and the scent of fresh ocean air rose up around them. Her lips were soft and careful, and there was still a hint of fear in them. That she was willing to welcome him up even with that fear spoke volumes for her courage. But he had no intention of letting her go, in any sense of that. Tomorrow morning he would confess his darkest sins to her, but for the moment, he wanted to savor her taste and feel her body.
He pulled away from the careful, hesitant kiss and brushed a few stray strands out of her face. “Show me upstairs. Or I’ll start working on condition two right now.”
Sarah’s eyes lit up, and a small smile appeared on her face. “That’s not really incentive.”
“It is if I get you naked right here.”
She pulled her lip between her teeth. That expression had never worked on Asher until just now, when the lust it conveyed and the potential for sexual promise went straight through him and made his dick jump. Asher leaned into Sarah’s ear. “You have a naughty streak, don’t you?”
“You’ll have to find out.” She ducked under his arm and headed for the elevator.
The doors opened for them and Asher ducked in just behind her. She had already pressed the button for her floor and he took the opportunity to wrap his arms around her and pull her against him. She gasped lightly when she felt his length against her lower back, then turned and caught his eyes. “Did I do that?”
“You,” he breathed into her ear. “I have done everything in my power to keep myself in check around you.”
“And what a fine fa├žade you put up,” she answered.

SPOTLIGHT & GIVEAWAY ~ SAVED IN SRI LANKA ~ BY DEVIKA FERNANDO

Blurb

Some people are destined to meet.

It sure feels that way when Sri Lankan tour guide Sepalika meets Daniel. The mysterious tourist from Ireland steals his way into her heart and makes her question everything her life is built upon. Instant attraction turns to love – but does he feel the same? And what about the secret she’s hiding from him?

Follow the two on their quest for a happy ending amid the beauty and wonders of the tropical island paradise of Sri Lanka.

Excerpt 1

“Follow me over there for a second.”
They walked to a corner of the garden, and Sepalika could see Daniel react the way she had expected it. He lifted his head and took a deep breath. She smiled to herself and felt a thrill rush through her.
“Can you smell that?”
He nodded with wide eyes. “It’s such an intoxicating scent, so…I don’t know, intense and sweet, mysterious and confident.”
Now her eyes widened, and a shiver of pleasure ran down her spine.
“This is my namesake,” she said, and her voice was hardly more than a whisper.”
He turned to stare at her then back at the flower-laden tree exuding such potent magic.
“May I introduce you to the redolent sepalika flower, commonly called night jasmine or coral jasmine, and sometimes confused with Queen of the Night. This tree’s flowers bloom only after dark, enchanting throughout the night. Shortly after dawn they’ll start wilting, and by morning you’ll have a patch of earth decked out in fallen, faded flowers.”
Daniel walked over to the tree as if in trance. He plucked one of the small white flowers and inhaled its powerful but not overpowering scent.
“They’re not just beautiful,” she continued. “People believe they’ll help you sleep soundly and dream sweetly. They are dried and stuffed into pillows for that purpose. Experts in native medicine claim it can help children with constipation.”
“Fascinating,” he murmured and walked back to her, stopping right in front of her so she had to crane her neck to peer into his deep, now surprisingly dark eyes.
“You know, this flower isn’t always praised for its beauty. Some people aren’t too fond of it because it looks bare and barren, common and even sort of forlorn during daytime. They dub it the ‘tree of sorrow’, but every night the fragrant flowers cause even the most sorrowful people to smile and appreciate.”
“There’s a whole story and lesson lingering there,” Daniel said, whispering too. “Looks like they’re much more than fragrant…just like you’re much more than what meets the eye.”
He leaned in and lifted his hand as if he wanted to stick the flower into her hair.

Author Bio

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark is writing sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust.
What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novelist, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.

SPOTLIGHT ~ THE DIAMOND LEGACY ~ BY JOANNE C. BERROA

My friend and talented author, Joanne Berroa has a new release.  Help me spread the word.

My new release: The Diamond Legacy is the sequel to my popular: The Diamond Cross, but can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone romance. It’s near and dear to my heart, so let me tell you a little bit about it.

BLURB:
The year 1907 finds Heather and Brenton Emery celebrating seven years of blissful marriage. They are anything but the average couple. The son of Hungarian immigrants, Brenton owns and manages a thriving, top-notch Saratoga Springs hotel and vaudeville pavilion with his partner-wife Heather. She’s an entrepreneur in her own right. Blessed with a keen business sense, she’s made millions of dollars in her undertakings.
But they soon learn even the best marriages have problems, and their commitment to each other is sorely tested. A charismatic billionaire makes Heather an offer she simply can’t refuse. Given the opportunity to spread her wings thousands of miles away from home, she must choose between marriage and her career. Her choice stuns Brenton. Will the handsome and brilliant San Francisco architect Heather joins forces with succeed in rendering the coup de grace on Heather’s now tenuous marriage?
To further complicate matters, Brenton’s secretary is astute and alluring. Heather’s plans fit her agenda nicely. Brenton is faced with the question: How far can a business friendship stretch before it is no longer just friendship?
The Diamond Legacy is a romance saga packed with bold, colorful characters and surprising twists that will tear at your heartstrings. Can Brenton’s and Heather’s love for each other rise above all odds and endure, or is love sometimes not enough?

EXCERPT:
“Care to comment on this.” He held the papers up for her to see.
“Can’t you read? I’m suing you for divorce.”
“You couldn’t tell me yourself. You had to get your lawyer to do it. You’re a cheat and a coward. I thought I knew you, but I was wrong. You’re an evil woman. You’re so devious, you probably even caused John’s heart attack. Did you slip a packet of strychnine into his coffee, little black widow spider!”
She slapped him hard. “I hate you! You’re pathetic. Your dick is smaller than my little finger.”
“Is it? How would you know, my pretty? You haven’t seen it in a damned year!”
“I’m sure you’ve been showing it off to lots of other women.”
“You should talk. You’ve been sleeping around with that architect and who knows whom else? Which of your lovers lives here with you, bitch?”
Her eyes shown puzzlement. “What are you talking about?” she snarled.
“The men’s clothing in your bedroom! Are you going to deny it?”
Her eyes widened and she relaxed a bit. “No, I’m not. I happen to love that man.”
“So you admit it! You’re having an affair!” Brenton clenched his teeth together. “So he’s the real reason you’re divorcing me. If not him, then it’s the architect. I swear, bitch, I can’t keep your lovers straight.”
“You’re a pigheaded ass, Brenton Emery. For your information, the man who’s staying with me is my father.”

ABOUT JOANNE

Blurb:
For over a year, Miss Gwendolyn Parkes and the Duke of Sowrith have corresponded. At first an error, the letters quickly became something much more, a friendship forged on like minds and perhaps the hope of something more…

When Gwen is compelled by her employer to attend the duke at his Dartmoor estate, she is devastated to find her beloved friend cold and imperious, even if he is the most handsome man she’s ever seen – despite his scars.

Edward, Duke of Sowrith, has longed to meet Gwen. Arranging her passage to his estate, he is tongue-tied when confronted with her quiet beauty. All too aware of the twisted ruin of his face, he allows fear to hold him silent…until Gwen’s safety is threatened.

Finally together, they grow closer until it seems they can never again be apart – but can a commoner and a duke find a happily ever after?

Excerpt:

“Edward.” Her hand slid up his lapel. Turning, he found her gray gaze upon him, a faint crease between her brows. “What is different?”

He stared into her eyes. She met his monocular gaze, no part of her expression revolted by the eye patch, the scars. He glanced at her hand, stroking his chest almost absently, her attention fully and totally on him. “When I received your letter, the one meant for Etta, it was like a ray of light, a beacon through relentless gray. So I responded and you sent your next letter and they....You were so full of joy, it bubbled out from the page and made me think perhaps I could experience it, if only a little. You had Etta, and your parents, and your employment, and though all three annoyed you on occasion, you had such…illumination.” His finger began a mad rhythm against his leg. “I’ve never had any of that. I’ve been here alone since the accident. I didn’t go to Eton. I was too ill. By the time I was old enough to attend university, I was so far behind there was no point. I went to London for the Season, but.... That did not turn out well.” Memories of horrified stares assaulted him, the whispers and notoriety that had come with his foray into society. Forcing the memories away, he said, “So I came home, and stayed.

“Then you sent me a letter. A bright, shining thing, and we corresponded and I...I wanted to meet you. So I arranged it that Beecham brought you to Sowrith, but I never thought he would not tell you, that I—” He grimaced. “You know what happened.

“Then you arrived, you were here, and I couldn’t.... There were no words. So I stood like a fool and watched you, and I wished I had the words that came so easily by pen. You were just like your letters—bright and gold and glittering, with your smile and your lightness, even when you frowned. And that was amazing to me. You are amazing to me. I wish I could…I wish I could tell you…” Finally, he looked at her.

Eyes wide, she regarded him, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

Shifting his weight, he averted his gaze. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said those things. I—”

A gentle finger against his lips stilled his words, and he remained silent as her hand slipped to cup his cheek. The ruined one. Emotion shuddered through him as he absorbed her touch.

“See? You say such things and I can’t…” Her thumb tracing his cheekbone, her other hand slid up his chest to crumple his lapel as she pulled. Following her direction, he leaned down.

Tentatively, her lips brushed his.

Hardly daring to breath, he stood stock still as she hesitantly explored the shape of his mouth, her lips molding to his with small stops and starts. Her tongue darted against his lips and he shuddered, the sensation exquisite and overwhelming.

Wrapping his good arm around her, he urged her close. She came, her arms slipping about his neck as her lips opened under his. The wind tore at his hair and howled in his ears, his heart thundering in his chest. Her mouth was warm and eager, tasting of honey and gold. Of Gwen.

EXCERPT

The books she’d read on relationships preached to be mysterious, not clinging. You never knew what worked. It really was all up to the chemistry and timing. Tonight the connection felt right.

“I’ll check my schedule at the office and be sure to put a weekend aside for a day at the beach.”

“Sounds like fun.” He’d indicated another date. Was it all too good to be true? She didn’t want to blink and wake up if this was a dream.

“There’s nothing like NYC. I’m happy I had a business meeting here today. It was lucky for me you wanted a muffin and a cup of coffee.” He turned to face her and smiled, the dimple in his chin more defined.

She offered a demure grin and shook her head in agreement. “I’m happy for my cravings for sweets.” Angela lifted her shoulders and pouted her lips, realizing it might look like she was teasing. Even though her strong physical attraction to him weakened her knees, she tried to remain poised. Then their eyes met. Eric leaned in and pulled her close. He placed one hand on the side of her face and covered her mouth with his. His after five stubble grazed her chin, and he kissed her with an unforgettable longing that took her by surprise. She parted her lips and quivered from head to toe. His lips were soft and his tongue darted in her mouth without warning. Her panties moistened. The fire in his kiss and the way his strong arms felt wrapped around her back made her lightheaded. She stood on her toes, and under the lights next to Macy’s window, Angela ran her fingers through the back of Eric’s hair and didn’t resist when he pressed his chest up against hers and nuzzled her neck. Meshed together under the spotlight, a flash of heat shot through her body. It seemed as if they were alone in the midst of the busy city streets. A man sprinted past them and bumped into Eric and the spell was broken, but it was a memorable moment that validated how much she wanted him even more. She took a tiny step back, still in a daze.

“You look so beautiful tonight. You’re driving me crazy,” Eric whispered, his voice hoarse and sexy. “Let’s get going, or I’m going to sweep you up and carry you away.” His words sounded like something out of a fairy tale.

“I might like that.” She gave a tiny grin.

“Oh, you would? Come here.” He grabbed her around her waist and brought her into him. They headed toward the parking lot.

“I’ll have to make a point to thank Rob and Savannah when they get back.”

“What for?”

“For bringing us together. If they hadn’t added me to the guest list, I would’ve never met you,” he admitted.

“Aww. Thanks!” Angela shared the same emotions. “I guess you have a good point there. What were the chances of an editor at a news and celebrity show hooking up with a doctor starting his career in medicine? Definitely unexpected.”

“Is that a good thing?”

“It’s a wonderful thing. Not that I’ve dated jerks or losers.” She giggled. “I meet mostly men in the business or in an associated field, working at a television station.”

“You don’t get out much, do you?” Eric joked.

“Very funny.” She swatted his arm in a playful gesture.

“I’m only fooling with you.”
“Yeah, sure.” She laughed.
“Here we are.” Eric led the way to his car. He

opened the door on the passenger side. Angela got in and took note of his attentive approach. A warm feeling of comfort filled her spirit.
