Rookie One Day, Pro the Next

Liz Crowe

In the fast-paced world of e publishing, you don’t have much grace period to make the learning curve.  You write, self-edit, CP, Beta, revise, and sub out pretty quickly.  All the new publishers out there are truly clamoring for more stuff to edit and sell so MOST of them respond fairly quickly.
Wham. Bam. Thank You M’am. Here’s your ARC (huh? Checks “jargon dictionary”), no go forth and PROMOTE.

Um, okay.

Luckily for me I sell for a living so got the hang of the whole “join groups, make yourself known on blogs as a consistent reader/commenter, then post and expect same” round robin.  But I can tell you, when the releases are stacked up like planes at O’Hare it can take on a life of its own.  One that quickly spirals out of your control.

I feel like I’m becoming one of those annoying promoters: “Hey!  Hey!  Over here! Yeah!  Me! Me! It’s all about Me!”  But oh well.  It’s a crowded market out here kids.  Do what you must to be heard above the fray.

I’ve built my blog (http://www.brewingpassion.com/) up slowly and get a fairly healthy number of eyes on it now (70-150 page views per day). Consistent posting is key, as I’m sure you all know by now.  Make up some sh*t and say it.  OR find another author willing to say it for you (Tips hat to Kathleen!). Just don’t ignore or it’ll dry up like a room full of peri-menepausal ladies. (chill kids.  I’m one of ‘em.)

I tweet, I re-tweet, I blog tour, I facebook and shamelessly promote there (getting myself kicked OUT of a couple of groups who claim to be “pure readers only” – whatever), and I find folks willing to guest post for me….and on it goes.

I’m in a pretty unique position right now with 3 publishers, and holding breath/crossing fingers over a submission to a Bigger One that’s seemingly making its way up the ladder.  I’m a bit all over the place with my book topics, consistent only in that I DON’T write paranormal (I know I know jump on the bandwagon…no thanks—I’m too gobsmacked by JR Ward right now).  But here ‘tis in order of release:

The Tap Room, A Choose Your Romance Novel from Breathless Press September 30 (or more realistically Oct. 3 or 4, don’t ask):
BLURB
Erin Brady is having a seriously interesting year…

After finding out her alpha banker husband, Bradley, has been cheating on her with his bubble-headed PR girl, she puts all her passion and energy into making her microbrewery a success. Until one business partner, Trent, attempts to rekindle an old flame, and her other partner admits his true feelings for her—what is a woman supposed to do?

Throw the hot new brewer, Jeff, in the mix, and it's a formula for disaster.

The daily stresses of running a small business, plus the ongoing turmoil in her personal life has Erin escaping to California for an industry event, where she meets Landon, a brewery rock-star-turn-consultant, who has been watching her and her company for a while.

When a family trauma requires her presence in Michigan, Erin is faced with an ex-husband who wishes for a reunion. Caught in the middle of all these men, she's even more confused by what she truly wants or needs.

Then the ultimate decision forces her into action: Newly acclaimed as the owners of Winter Street Brewing, honored by Inc. Magazine as Top Entrepreneurs, Trent, Owen and Erin face a buyout offer from a much larger brewery. What will she choose? Who will she share it all with?

NOTE:  THIS SERIES ALREADY HAS 2 “MISSING CHAPTERS” PUBLISHED FROM BREATHLESS:
The Rookie (Meet Trent, the founder of Winter Street Brewing as he seduces his new girlfriend, Lisa on a sales ride along day)
XXXMas Ale (a bit of a holiday lark—fun in the brewery at a party!)
AND the final chapter—a bit more from Trent and Lisa will be released November 25: SPECIFIC  GRAVITY

TURKISH DELIGHTS (PART ONE) a 1NightStand from Decadent Publishing
Nov. 4
The fifteen year age difference  between Elle Kensington, ex-patriat American executive and Emre Demir, son of Istanbul's most successful businessmen, has not kept them from becoming fast friends as they tour Istanbul together.  But the time has come for him to return to the U.S. to finish his master's degree and she has just been named CEO of the pharmaceutical company that brought her to Turkey in the first place.  Elle adores her adopted country, and is alarmed to find herself falling in love with the young man who's been her impromptu guide for the last few months.

But she knows they can never be.  She will return home to California within a month, leaving behind all she loves about the ancient city.  In a rare fit of spontaneity, Elle has contracted with Madame Eve's OneNightStand dating service to hopefully find a way to forget the dark, handsome young man who has captured her heart.  Little does she know what awaits her in the ancient recesses of the Ottoman palace turned luxury hotel under the hands of her one night stand masseur.

BLUE CRUISE (Turkish Delights Part 2)
Nov. 8
Caleb and Tarkan were an odd couple, men from two different cultures, so in love they were determined to overcome any obstacles.  But fate had different plans. Two years after tragedy strikes, Caleb is still a hollow shell of himself, alone and miserable.

Adem Broussard is happy enough, as owner and chef of his restaurant on the Turkish southern coast.  But a tall, American Adonis he saw once, years ago on a Turkish Blue Cruise haunts his most erotic dreams and he hopes contracting with Madame Eve's 1NightStand service for an unconventional date will help him forget.

When Caleb caves in to his friend Elle's insistence that he return to Turkey and exorcise some of the demons that haunt him, he reluctantly climbs on board a private yacht for a special 1NightStand Blue Cruise.  There he comes face to face with the man who remembers him well, and wants to help him heal.

TULIP PRINCESS (Turkish Delights #3)
Nov. 18
Do true soul mates exist? Can two people from different cultures, different worlds but with needs only the other can meet find happiness?

Lale Deniz, young, unhappy, drifting and prone to wildness that her Turkish family doesn't understand is seeking something, someone, to help her reestablish control over her life. Her beloved brother Tarkan has been killed in a terrorist attack. His twin, Emre lives far away in America with his growing family.  When Elle, Emre's American wife has a scary brush with death giving birth, Lale is dispatched to California to help with their five-year old daughter. But a recovering Elle has plans for Lale that involve a magical 1NightStand.

Andreas Michos, Greek former NFL defensive star, now athletic director at UNLV also floats through life, unhappy, unsuccessfully seeking happiness. His former wife and slave left him when he took away the limelight of football stardom.  He doubts his own abilities anymore and has given up finding an outlet for his natural Dom.

Set against a backdrop of ancient cultural clashes and Mediterranean family dynamics, Lale and Andreas do meet in Las Vegas at the famous Castillos resort for a date. But it seems destined to fail. Unless they are both willing to relinquish control and discover what can be found inside the soul of another.

I’ve been asked to write a “prequel” to this entire series.  Working title is:
The Diplomat’s Daughter

CAUGHT OFFSIDE a standalone 1NightStand from Decadent Publishing
Ramon Castillo, world famous soccer player and international playboy has been brought low by a career-ending injury.  After the humiliation of a shattered leg at the World Cup final he has spent a year in surgeries and painful therapies, the last three months of which are at the Castillo resort in Las Vegas under the watchful eye of his cousins, Jackson and Gabriel.  They are both worried about his lack of interest in soccer, women, or in anything much else besides the black jack tables.

What a fabulous release list you have there. Best wishes with all of them. Do you write one at a time or do you wokr on several WIPs at a time?

These look like great books!! I haven't read anything by you, Liz, but I know you from Facebook, a particular group we're both part of, and a shared publisher, but it sounds like you're uber busy on top of your business!! Wow!

I think if you don't have a love/passion for writing Paranormal, then you should stay away from it. Who says you have to write that genre to be successful? There's a lot of authors who are successful and don't write paranormal. If you write what you love, I think it'll show in your writing. Just my opinion, but what the hell do I know? I only write paranormal, but I read a little bit of everything!

Best of success and you know to poke me whenever you need help promoting!!

Huggles,
Gracen

Sherri, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I'm in Denver for a Big Beer Fest (Saturday is recuperation night for me!). I usually work on creating one WIP at a time, but nearly always have something going on in editing simultaneously. I'm working on the Turkish Delights prequel currently (creating it), just finished Tap Room Editing and am anticipating some of the 1NS editing in the coming weeks. thanks for commenting!
GRACEN: thanks for your kind words! You have a lot going on promotions wise so i would consider you an expert!
cheers
